North Carolina Opioid Data Resources

These resources contain relevant data on opioid use, misuse, and overdoses in North Carolina. Sites include mapping that focuses on hot spots for opioid use and deaths, drug trafficking, Narcan deployment, and overdose detection. Communities may use this data to understand the challenges specific to their populations and measure progress toward their goals for mitigating the epidemic.

Access to Treatment & Recovery Support

These resources contain both concrete information about recovery and treatment services in North Carolina, including housing and employment resources, as well as theories and tools to develop, improve, and evaluate treatment and recovery programs. Communities may use these resources to build their knowledge and capacity when creating or implementing treatment and recovery programs.

Children & Youth Engagement

These resources focus on a broad range of children and youth involvement in the opioid crisis, including resiliency and trauma resources, prevention and education efforts, and criminal justice diversion programs. Communities may use these resources to understand the relationship between childhood trauma and opioids, invest in resiliency networks, or create their own education or diversion initiatives based on promising practices.

Education and Media Campaigns

These resources provide examples of media campaigns that can be coordinated in communities, as well as films and videos that can be incorporated into education and prevention efforts. Communities may use these resources to construct their own media campaign that is person-first and harm-reduction oriented, or to participate in state or national campaigns, awareness days, or education efforts in their communities.

Harm Reduction Strategies

These resources provide links to organizations working on harm reduction in the state, as well as best practices related to harm reduction programming. Communities may use these resources to connect with organizations and to learn more about implementation of a harm reduction framework in governmental, nonprofit, or private organizations and collaboratives.

Justice-Involved Individuals

These resources focus on the overlap of substance use disorders and the criminal justice system, and include reentry assistance programs, criminal justice diversion programs, and resources related to recovery courts and other alternative justice programs. Communities may use these resources to guide law enforcement and criminal justice decision-making, as well as assist justice-involved individuals in reentering their communities successfully.

Medication Initiatives

These resources provide information about medication-assisted treatment (MAT), medication disposal, and naloxone (overdose reversal) in NC and beyond. Communities may use these resources to access MAT, disposal, or naloxone, and learn more about medication initiatives they may want to implement in their communities.

These resources include NC-specific and national practices and regulations for syringe exchange programs, as well as initiatives and locations in North Carolina. Communities may use these resources to access SEPs, or to guide their creation and implementation of SEPs in their area.

Telehealth, Virtual Resources and COVID-19

These resources provide guidance on safety measures and virtual resources for those experiencing substance use disorders and in recovery during the COVID-19 pandemic. Communities may use these resources to guide their safety and recovery responses for individuals whose programs or treatment were interrupted by the onset of the pandemic.
